Growing: My Work And My Reward

Rock Candy Mountain Spirit

Rock Candy Mountain Spirit

My name is weed and I live on Candy Mountain. I am rooted in rocks. I stretch out in cold shade that lasts for most of the day, and then for a few precious hours, I embrace the blazing sun. Candy Mountain sounds like a fun and yummy place, full of treats, all nice and soft and cozy.

No one thinks it looks that way except for me. Candy Mountain is a treat to me however. It gives me life. Living is my treat. growing is my treat. Being here is my reward and my tribute, my challenge and my hardship, my privilege and my honor. This is my spot and it belongs to me and no one else.

Other weeds have meadows, or gently rolling hills to call home. But I have rocky crags and shale that breaks and shatters and tumbles to shadowy depths. Like my cohorts in gentler surroundings, I had no choice as to where I was placed to grow. It is just that I am here,  and so I am. I do my best, and hope for the best. What else should I do?

I shall grow and hang on and flourish tiny bit by tiny bit. Every day I hang onto my rock shall be a good day. And through my work of growing I shall be happy that I have a place I to call home. I have spirit; a great and hardy spirit and I live on Candy Mountain!

Long may we all live, and love living.

Please come back soon for a new “Weed Image of the Day” and let me know which ones you like.

We and our weeds are so much more than what we first appear to be.
